Howdy all. A little background: my desktop is an ancient DIY, based on an ASUS A7V266 mobo; Athlon XP 1600+ cpu; and an EVGA geforce Ti400 PCI card with a paltry 64 megs of DDR. This system was built in Dec. 2001,and has been nearly flawless since. Since I’ve only managed to stay home for 2 of those 7 years, I see no need in building a totally new system, so I’m upgrading. Already added a new HDD, and picked out new Ram. This mobo has AGP, as well as PCI available for a video card. I’m looking for suggestions for a new video card regarding AGP vs PCI.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike.

AGP is supposedly faster than PCI.
Just check what version of AGP your MB supports. ( ie: 4x, 8x )

The two big names in video cards are still NVidia and ATI. Try for the one with most amount of on-board video RAM. There some good buys around for both of these brands.

You’ll have huge difficulty find a PCI (as opposed to PCI-e which is completely different) graphics card today, but a few manufacturers still make AGP cards (though not anything ‘high-end’).

The best one you’ll probably find now would be similar to this

they seem to have a good selection.

I was suprised that they still made them to be honest
