I have one of those annoying problems in that when I select a “suggested name” after entering the first letter of the nickname I sometimes get just the Nickname (which is what I prefer) then for some obscure reason I get the Nickname suffixed with the e-mail address
If I type a W in the To box I can select Will Smith I prefer to just have that shown in the To box
on occasions I will get Will Smith in the To box
I have moved the NK2 file and it is being rebuilt but the problem has appeared again.
The only thing I can suggest but have no idea how to solve is the problem seems to return after I have either replied to a message or received a message from the person

Look in the contacts of each of the problem entries and check to see how it is to be displayed, as each entry can be different.
The “Display as” box is on the upper right side of the screen.

This always seemed very random to me. I’ll be interested to hear if you see a pattern behind it. Personally, I like to have the address there because sometimes people change addresses and sending to the old one can slow down progress on a project — or worse.

I am happy to hear that others have the same trait, I will continue to investigate.
        Thanks for the replies

If I remember right, the names do NOT need to be in you Contacts. The list remembers the one you type in.

You’re correct – the nickname file contains names of persons to whom you sent e-mail and/or from whom you received e-mail, whether they are in your Contacts or not.
