    Hello…

I am running Windows 2003 on a computer which is connected to a router which is then connected to a cable modem (Comcast). I’ve always had a good connection… until this morning. I booted up, and the computer decided it wasn’t going to connect to the internet anymore. I have two other computers on the network, one running XP Pro and the other running Win 2k3, both of which have no problems connecting.

When I open the Command prompt and run ipconfig, it says that the IP address is 169.254.67.65 and the subnet mask is 255.255.0.0. There USED to be a listing for Connection-Specific DNS Suffix and Default Gateway, but now they are blank. The other two computers still show the appropriate information (the Default Gateway is 192.168.1.1, which is the address of the router).

If it helps any, the router is a Linksys BEFR41 V.2 4-port router. Also, I have tried ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew to no avail (the latter reveals an error message that the DHCP server cannot be reached).

Any help would be TREMENDOUSLY appreciated. Thanks!!

    Wendell

169.254.x.x is a dead end; it means “couldn’t find a real network.”

Try ipconfig /renew in a cmd window to see if Windows will locate the network. If not, look for any device problems (e.g., in the device manager, a red X over your network card).

Saturday I the same thing occur at a person’s house. In this case the Linksys router has “reverted” to allow only two computers on the network connection, I changed it to 5 (after an hour of what is going on? hairout ). I do not remember where the settings for this were BUT they were in the Linksys insatall/setup sheet (the large one). It was as easy as 1-2-3 once I found that setting. fanfare .
Be sure the Windows “firewall” is not on also.

Apprently there was a world wide Linksys router probelm over the last week -end! Monday I went to log on to the net and I could not connect to the internet. I could see the other two computers (all running Win2K) but no internet access. After checking and rebooting the router and modium (Comcast also) turns out the router deceided to not allow any computer internet access. Once I changed that configeration, things went back to normal. I could not find any reason why this happened and reading the previous posts it makes me wonder about this issue. Anyway just my observation. Did anyone else have a problem with this?

Same problem here, NetGear Rp614V2 router, 2x Win XP machines and a Win Me machine. Restarted the router and cable modem and everything was fine again.
