I have a table that is named “Main Names (all)” (Do Not ask why !! ). It is the basis for a main form, but when I try to link a subform based on another table that has the ID of that darn table in it as a FK, I get a message “Automation Error no object Main Names (all)”. Are the Parentheses throwing it off? If so is there a way I can globally rename that table?
Thanks
Zave Rudman

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 16, 2007 at 11:28 am #1051774I don’t think the parentheses cause the problem. As a test, I created a table named “Main Names (all)” and another table linked to its primary key. I could create a main form / subform based on this setup without getting an error message.
BTW, the excellent add-in Find and Replace lets you change the name of items throughout the database; you can download a free trial version.

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 16, 2007 at 1:05 pm #10517841) The record source of the main form contains two fields named ID. This causes ambiguity.
2) You had linked the subform on the ID field from Misc details instead of the ID field from Main names (all).
See attached version.BTW, why do you have these two tables? They have a 1-to-1 relationship, so it would be much easier to use one table.

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 16, 2007 at 1:10 pm #1051785The reason there are two tables goes back to prehistoric times when this was written in Access 2.0 and not everyone in the main table has a record in the misc details, so this was to save space in other forms.
It was linked to the ID details in misc details table, since I was trying anything to get this to work, but what you pointed is obvious as usual.
Thanks Again
