Strange problem with BVCKUP2

Hi: I recently ran across a backup program called Bvckup2. I thought I would give it a try. After I installed it and made a backup I realized it was not what I was looking for (backs up files and folders, no image.) I uninstalled it found that two items remained in the backup folder. I receive the message “the file name or extension is too long. You can shorten the file name and try again, or try a location with a shorter path.” One is an entry within Firefox favorites for a company called MWave The second is a reference to the WinStore. One was originally in “Users-LG-AppData-Local-Packages-WinStore-etc” (which I deleted) and the other in “Users-Favorites-Shopping” area (which is not in the original location.) I can’t delete, edit, rename, move, take control of, or do anything else with these leftover entries left behind by BVCKUP.

This is not a critical problem as these entries take up virtually no space. I certainly won’t lose sleep if I can’t remove them. That said, I’m just wondering if someone has a suggestion as to how to remove these entries. Thank you.

You could try trial version of Revo Uninstaller using Forced Uninstall option (tab at top).

Monroe36: Thanks for the reply. I have Revo on my computer. Forced Uninstall will remove a program/app but, apparently, not individual files. I tried but no soap. These are not actually even files, but rather information associated with AppData in my users file. Thank you again for trying to help. As it’s not hurting anything I think I’ll just leave them alone.

I’m wondering why Revo did not identify those left over files. Am including link to Revo User’s Guide. Take a look at pages 14-16. And you are welcome for the replies.

Bvckup 2 is mine, I wrote it. I was just googling for new mentions and came across this thread.

In case if you still need to solve this issue the root of it is that the length of a full path for these files exceeds 255 characters. This would happen if your destination (backup) folder was in some sub-sub-sub-folder, thus pushing the full file path over the limit. This is an odd limitation of Windows Explorer. For whatever reason it just can’t handle all paths that NTFS supports (and NTFS can support paths that are as long as 65K characters).

In any case, to remove these files you need to shorten their full path and the easiest way to do it is to move their folder to the root of the drive. Then delete moved folder. Then delete the rest of folders as needed. If you need further help, there’s a contact email on the website.

‘temporary’s” advice was what did the trick. The problem all along was indeed there were too many characters in the files. No matter what I had tried I wasn’t allowed to delete. Following temporary’s advice, I moved the offending files to their root (in this case E drive) and I was permitted to delete them. I then could delete the now empty folders that contained the files.

Bvckup 2 is a very nice program, simple and straightforward and easy to use. It was just not the type of backup I was searching for (which was a compressed backup image.) If anyone would like to know more about the program do a search for Bvckup 2.
