    I am having a very weird problem. We just switched to MS2000 server for about 10 days without problems, but I am now having intermittent problems. We have a front end on local machines and a back end. 15 people max use the database. People will have errors when trying to input dates that have a form property or table -level format function. Sometimes they can click on the field and it will give an error saying “Function is not available in expressions in table-level expression”, which I take to mean the DB can’t validate something – but there are no validations except formatting the date. Strangely, if the person clicks in a different field and then tabs into the date field the date can be entered normally.

    Also in a certain case an update query (with criteria) will not run, so a report cannot be generated (although the form being used is populated by several other queries putting info into a temporary table).

    Another error people are getting is that a “project or library” is not available.

    Some compters have the problem and some don’t. One did not have a problem and then later showed some of these problems. All are using the same front and back end.

    Any ideas suggestions I go the the LAN people?

      These do seem like strange errors. Did you only change-out the server? That is, are all the workstations still using same O/S as before? Check the references in the frontend, to make sure there are no problems. Lacking any other information, I’d certainly suspect LAN or server problems.

        Well, it has been fixed (fingers crossed). I didn’t think it was the code references since this version has been used successfully for a couple months. BUT, apparently there is something about the windows 2000 server software that highlighted some missing references. A couple months ago I had been playing with some ActiveX controls. I didn’t think anything of it and actually distributied the version with test forms with several of these controls on them. There were no problems and I had forgotten about that until this changeover to win200 server. The problem was that some machines had the dll’s needed for the activeX controls and some did not. Once I deleted the test form the problems cleared up.

          Those Missing References can be a real pain. As you found out, just having a missing reference in the database can hurt you, even if you aren’t using the form that the utilizes the code.
