Hi all, I had a strange issue with my bluetooth mouse this morning when I powered up my laptop. The cursor moved in the opposite direction that I moved the mouse. I unplugged and replugged the mouse to no avail. I ended up changing the batteries and this fixed the problem?????????????

The batteries were 2 AAA Lithium batteries that had been in for some time, I did not think that they would need replacing just yet but thought I would try this and see if it fixed the problem. Thought it strange that poor battery performance would change the way the mouse works.

    Weird or what?

    Regards,
    Maria

Not Weird at all. Low power can cause all kinds of problems. Batteries give off a certain voltage. When the batteries start getting weak, this voltage will change cause the circuitry in the mouse to act “weird”.

What I think is weird is that the mouse did not notify you of this. My mouse pops up a warning when my batteries are getting low. In fact I have switched to rechargeable batteries just for this reason.

Its why I hate wireless mice and keyboards. But now that my beloved Microsoft Trackball Explorer has died, the closest alternative is a wireless Logitech Trackman. 🙁

My batteries (rechargeable) last for several weeks between swaps. The non-rechargeable variety last much longer. I just enjoy the freedom of not being connected via that darn wire. This is especially helpful on our laptops.

        Ted,

I think part of the problem is that the mouse in question is what you might call an el-cheapo bought off the internet. My dearer Logitech & Microsoft meeces tell me when the battery is getting low with a blinking light on the top of the mouse the cheap one did not have this.

        Regards,
        Maria

My Logitech, with my Setpoint s/w, gives me a pop up as well as the light on top. Sometimes you can get good stuff off the internet, sometime not so good. Lessen learned. Have a great day Maria.
