I upgraded from 6 to 7, and more recently to 8, and found certain pages wouldn’t load properly. For example, clicking on a link from Boing Boing’s newsletter would cause the page to cycle round while loading, i.e. it goes Connecting…, page name, Connecting…, page name, Connecting…, page name, ad infinitum. To remedy this, I have to open a second tab, e.g. Google search, and then the cycling stops. However, if the second tab is another Boing Boing link, both tabs cycle round. This problem isn’t confined to Boing Boing. Some other sites do the same thing. I never had this problem before FF 7. Anyone else had this happen to them?

AskWoody LoungerNovember 9, 2011 at 8:39 pm #1306025Are the links set up with tracking, i.e., rather than go straight to the intended destination, they go through a tracking server?
You could try clearing your browser cache, as sometimes Firefox hold on to files that have been updated and this can cause sites to malfunction:
-
[*]orange Firefox button ”or” Tools menu > Options > Advanced
[*]On the Network mini-tab > Offline Storage : “Clear Now”Recent versions of Firefox have discontinued support for some older features, as well as imposing security restrictions on some features. Because these are not headline changes, the causes and consequences can be obscure.
It’s also possible to have damage to your profile during upgrades. But hopefully that is not the problem here.
Edit: Also, one of your add-ons might not be fully compatible with recent versions of Firefox. You can use Firefox’s Safe Mode as a quick reality check on that. It’s a good idea to make a backup of your profile folder first, just in case you accidentally reset your profile. Losing bookmarks would be a major bummer.
See Backing up your information. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
In the Safe Mode dialog, be careful not to “reset” anything permanently if you didn’t back up. Just “continue in Safe Mode.”
Hope this helps.
