I am trying to do what I think should be a very simple task. in settings under storage I am trying. to change the default  drive where Data is stored. I have a 250 gb ssd and a 1tb hd. When I go to the setting where new content is stored, when I try to change it, it tells me I do not. have full permission. of that particular folder. I have tried to change permissions on the folder but no luck I just feel like I’m missing something here, Hopefully. some one knows more about it.

By storage, do you mean Documents? There is a tab for changing folders and drives for storing Documents, Pictures, Videos, Downloads and Music. Right click on the current location and select the “Location” tab. If THAT is restricting you, there must be a policy issue.

Not sure where you’re seeing this. in file explorer under. D drive For documents. properties do not show a location.

Where I am trying to change it is in windows settings storage. other drives. change default location. This is my personal computer Should not be any policy. restrictions.

I always move Documents to point to my Documents folder on E: after a new build. The one on E: has all my stuff from previous builds. E: is simply a 30GB partition that I carry along from build to build.

Right click on Documents, choose Properties, choose Location Tab. This one has already been moved.

I don’t move Microsoft’s default folders.. I create new ones on drive D for my data.
Microsoft’s default folders are always empty.

      * Remember Microsoft’s 1809 upgrade disaster that wiped all data of users that used the folders relocation feature ?
      It may happen again.

..and than you risk wiping all data with a botched Windows update (re : Windows 1809)

1809 deleted the old folder for a few people, not the new folder location:

This occurred if Known Folder Redirection (KFR) had been previously enabled, but files remain in the original “old” folder location vs being moved to the new, redirected location.
