• Stop Windows from changing telemetry settings during update.

Is there a way to stop Windows reverting telemetry settings after every update? I want  to prevent Microsoft from tracking me as best as I can, but after every monthly update I have to go into O&O Shutup and change the telemetry settings to disable… again. It seems the monthly updates reset privacy and telemetry settings back to default values every time.

      No.
You can’t block Windows update from changing pre-defined settings.

I also use O&O Shutup and it very clearly warns you that Windows updates can revert some of its settings and you’ll need to run it again to reset them.

      ShutupWarning

In my case, once I’ve set everything the way I want, I used its Export settings… option to save them and then its Import settings… option to reset them after a Windows update.

Note: when O&O Shutup updates itself, you’ll need to go thru all the settings again as they regularly add/remove some of them to account for the changing Windows telemetry landscape.

After O&O ShutUp10’s settings have been exported to a .CFG file, they can be imported automatically from a script (BAT, CMD, etc.) using, for example:

      OOSU10.exe <path to .CFG file>

To prevent feedback from the app appearing, use:

      OOSU10.exe <path to .CFG file> /quiet

Windows setting positions, walues… may change after updates. Restoring may crash the system.

          Restoring may crash the system.

          Not yet.

Always create a fresh drive image before making system changes/Windows updates; you may need to start over!

          Same here!

I’ve been using O&O ShutUp10 since I upgraded from Win7 to Win10 1909 (currently on Win10 21H2 build 19044.1645) and my OS has never crashed when restoring/updating the O&O ShutUp settings after any updates.

What you need is something similar to the Win10Tel.cmd script from our abbodi86. The Win10Tel.cmd script is for Windows 7 and Windows 8x computers. See the link below for the Askwoody topic in which he describes it in detail:

I don’t know if abbodi86 has created a similar cmd script for Windows 10. Perhaps ask him!

No way can be done. MS needs a way to spy on you.

      O&O ShutUp10’s settings

Have you restored O&O ShutUp10’s settings after Windows updates?

        No, I didn’t write that.
