Stop Chrome multiple windows

I just reinstalled Windows 10, and Chrome’s behavior has changed. Now when I have Chrome open (with multiple tabs) and I click on the Chrome icon in my taskbar to return to the program a new Chrome window opens. In my previous installation of Windows 10, when I clicked on my Chrome icon, Chrome returned to the last open tab in my original Chrome window. Anybody have any suggestions or solutions?

Check your Chrome startup options in the Chrome browser settings. (3 bars, top right corner, select Settings, near the bottom of the list).
If an extension is controlling your start page, (Settings will tell you), you can either stop it or reset it’s options. Restart the browser if you make changes to any settings.

Make sure Chrome is up to date ?
To find out,…Click “Help and About” also in the “Customise & Control Google Chrome Control screen. (3 bars icon).
If Chrome is not up to date, let Chrome update it. Currently V 46.0.2490.71.m
A restart is needed after an update !

I appreciate the reply, but the problem remains unsolved. My startup option is certain set specific pages. No extension controls startup at least as far as I can detect. My Chrome version is current. Any other ideas or suggestions?

Maybe I should restate the issue: Chrome is in position 1 (WinKey+1) on the Taskbar. Previously, in Windows 8 when I opened Chrome a new icon did not appear on the Taskbar and the original icon in position 1 related to the open Chrome window. Now in Windows 10 when I open a Chrome Window a new icon appears at the far end of the Taskbar and the original icon in position 1 acts to open a new Chrome window.
