Clicking on one cell set that cell as a focus point and no matter how I moved the pointer, it drags a selection and won’t let go.
I cannot do ANYTHING else and have to Alt-Ctl-Del to kill Excel.
It repeated this action in all my Excel files. Had to finally reboot to stop it.

    Cause and/or Cure?

      Ray,

Oddly, my Excel (2000) started doing this exact behavior right after reading your post. Do you have a wheel mouse? FWIW, I got rid of the behavior by clicking the wheel. If that doesn’t work I’d look into reverting any customized mouse settings to defaults, or see if there is an updated driver for your mouse.

I have seen it happen on my desk top with the mouse wheel; however, it is recoverable.

The current problem is on a new Dell Laptop with both a touch pad and stick (WinXP & Excel 2002).
I disabled “DragLock”, but this symptom seems the reverse situation.
So I do not seem to understand the “draglock” feature or is there a patch?

          Ray,

I’ve got no experience with the draglock feature or working with laptops. Sorry. Maybe someone else can help.

      Ray,

It might be the “F8” key was pressed.
That key toggles the extend selection feature in Excel.
If its on, it will show “Ext” in the right hand section of the status bar.

        Jim,
Thanks, F8 releases the extended selection; however, I’m not sure how it starts.
Don’t think I am accidently pressing F8. But a fix is a fix and better than a reboot.
