AskWoody LoungerSeptember 19, 2022 at 7:04 am #2479872When I saw the title, I thought, “yeah, another util polluting my screen with little yellow things”, after I read the first couple of sentences, I couldn’t wait to get this thing, I can think of a million uses! Oddly, when I tried to hash the executable to compare the the hash file, I received a “permission denied”. I scanned for virus manually, all okay, but only after first run when it spawned graphics did it allow me to hash it. Anyway, thanks for the outstanding find!

AskWoody PlusSeptember 19, 2022 at 11:14 am #2479947While the program worked for me, a couple of things.
- Note Settings: You show an ability to resize the note. I could not find that ability anywhere in the notes.
- When my Outlook is full screen on a second screen, the note overlays against the upper right hand close minimize and maximize buttons. No way to reposition the note. It should float.
Those two things are show stoppers for me. Sorry. I’ll stick with OneNote or Sticky notes.
Did I miss something?

AskWoody PlusSeptember 19, 2022 at 1:47 pm #2479974I also see no option to change the note size in the program’s settings, so I don’t know what Deanna is talking about. You can, however, edit the .ini file to change the default note size (note width=xxx, note height=xxx). I had a problem with the notes being halfway off the screen, too, but by editing the .ini file’s “note adjust top row position” and “note adjust top col position” numbers you can place it where you want by default. The program’s a great idea, but not being able to adjust the size and position on the fly is more of a hassle than it’s worth. I think I may have tried Stickies (mentioned in another comment), but maybe not since I don’t remember it having an option to stick to certain programs. I’ll give it a look.

AskWoody LoungerSeptember 19, 2022 at 12:39 pm #2479965Thanks for letting us know about this program! I will test it out right away. You never lead us wrong.
However, I’m not sure I need it, because I use Stickies (https://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/stickies/), which has an option to associate sticky notes with a particular application (as it states on the referenced page: “Stickies can be attached to an application, web site, document or folder so they only show when it’s on screen.”). I find it to be a good program; maybe you could review it some time?

AskWoody PlusSeptember 19, 2022 at 5:23 pm #2480036This is a very good concept and it is well executed. However, it fails me for a couple of reasons. Interesting that you mention “Tax software” in your article and that is what I was hoping to use it with. However, the software I use is written in PowerBasic and while I can load the note software, I cannot edit the note when using this product. They are rewriting the tax software and it appears to work in the more modern environment, but that will mean it is useless for any years that are not written in the new development tools.
Second issue is window size. This tax software gives me the ability to build and design my own keystroke macros, but it is often hard to keep track of them. I have more than 30 each year and many of them are year-dependent. Normally I build a “key” for which keystrokes perform what function and document them in Sticky Notes but I need to remember which note goes with which year. This software was intriguing because I can link it to the specific year. Unfortunately, my list of keystrokes and functions goes far beyond the limitations of Stick A Note’s design and they do not give us scrollbars, so much of my content is there but unavailable.
Still it would be a nice product for those with more limited needs.

AskWoody PlusSeptember 19, 2022 at 6:14 pm #2480058OMG, thank you! I have been searching for years for a way to put a note on an email message, and this works! Amazing!!! Not ideal, because it does not show in a preview window, but still… I had found something that works in desktop Outlook, but nothing for my web browser email accounts. Until now. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

AskWoody PlusSeptember 21, 2022 at 7:40 pm #2480768Deanna,
Please check out Stickies. Norio may well have something. I started to set up and use Stick A Note, but noticed his post and found Stickies to be a better, easier, and much more capable program.
On another note:
My sincere thanks to all Ask-Woody staff and participants for their contributions which are and have been extremely helpful to me, now and for many years past.
