In windows explorer I can’t seem to keep the status bar around. I click it in the view menu but it goes away when I close explorer. I’d like it to be there whenever I open explorer. I’ve tried holding the control key down when exiting windows exporer but that doesn’t help. Ideas?

Have you tried to save the settings in the Tools, file Options pane by seclecting the “Apply to all folders” button?

Hi, jrclen ~

You need to hold down the ‘shift‘ key, not the ‘control’ key. Also, use ‘File‘ > ‘Close‘ to exit when doing this.

It MUST be done as directed above, NO if and/or Buts about it.

Hmmm, well, I NEVER use the “Apply to all folders” button. I am well aware of these steps for window sizing, but the method in which I described has ALWAYS been personally met with uncompromised success as well when encountering above referenced status bar problem.

Here comes my ol’ nearly-dead horsey again! For reference, you may want to look at this post some time ago: post 142559 This “fix” I stumbled on almost a year ago, has seemed to work for all manner of “Win XP Won’t Remember Settings” types of problems. If you’re not up to a little registry tweaking, read no further, please. I don’t want you to damage your OS’s runnability status. Using REGEDIT, delete the following two keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsShellNoRoamBagMRU
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsShellNoRoamBags

That might hold it for awhile.

Big Al,
Just wanted to make sure. You said to delete the two ENTIRE keys, BagMRU & Bag?
There are a lot of sub-keys under those.
I can export them all to a .reg file of course, and reinstall if necessary.

Yup, delete the two keys. I understand the feeling and the first couple of times I did mine, I exported them for safety margin. Weird, huh?

Well I must have scared the program by writing to the lounge because suddenly it decided to work. I did hold the control key while clicking the x (something I have used in 98se many times) one last time and this time it seemed to work. But I will save all the tips provided just in case it looses it’s mind again. Thank you for all the replys. And Big Al, I don’t have a problem editing the registry, I have done it many times, including a few times I wish I woudn’t have, but I am comfortable in there. Thanks again all.
