Have an AMD Athlon II x4 645 processor 3.10ghz. 4 gb memory 64 bit OS. Windows 8 Pro w/Media Center system. Sound drivers are Julia@ sound card, ATI HDMI Audio, SB for iTunes and Realtek high def audio.

When using any driver, the sound has a static quality particularly if there is more than one activity. If I am recording a vinyl and doing most any other activity such as using Word, Excel or any Adobe installed product the output is garbled.

Since the unclear sound appears when using any of the sound drivers, it almost sounds like it is something to do with the OS or motherboard. But if I knew the answer to that, then I would not be here.

    Any help is great. Thanks.

Are you recording analog or digital? If analog and its a small to mid sized form factor system, there’s a lot of components giving off RF noise that can easily be picked up and recorded along with the analog signal. If you get a little stereo mini-jack to USB adapter so that the audio is converted to digital before entering the system, you could verify if that is the problem and use that audio subsystem for recording from exterior sources instead.

Thanks for the response. Recording from turntable through a tubed preamp then into the pc through the sound card. The strange part of all of this is that this situation is relatively new. Also, the static occurs with all playback. Right now I’m listening to jazzradio.com and there is static. And no recording being done at the moment.

If it’s RF interference, it’ll be in everything at some level as long as it’s analog and the only way to test for sure is to make it digital outside of the box before it goes in. Detecting the same static in everything is a good indication that it is RF noise but not definite. I record several radio programs each week and I used to have to search through several systems before I found one that was quiet enough but since the analog to digital adapters became available and are so inexpensive, I just use them on whatever system I wish now.
