Start, Run, MSCONFIG. On the Startup tab, uncheck what you don’t want to run. BE VERY CAREFUL you don’t stop something if you’re not sure what it is!

Thank you for the question and the reply. I was wondering how to perfom this same operation. I have an Artec Ultima 2000 scanner and when I downloaded/installed a new driver and their scanner software I also received a simple scan program that starts when I boot to Windows XP Home and a icon stays in the system tray.

Ahhh… My scanner has the same little TSR it puts in the tray. Comes in very handy if you ever use the scanner as a “quick” copy machine. In my case, the scanner is on my “old” Win98 machine which doesn’t see much service, so I’ve not stopped the utility.

Thanks! It seems the procedure is different from that on Win98.

Dennis, I think if it were me, I’d open up the Task Manager and see what kind of resources the scanner TSR is using before I’d kill it off. If it isn’t a detriment to your system, you might want to make sure you don’t find some uses for it before you put it to bed.

I did disable my TSR scanner program but a Windows XP dialog box popuped at the next reboot telling me that it was working in diagnostic mode and to change the settings back. Wnen I confirmed the settings without the scanner, on reboot WIndows XP reset itself and the scanner TSR was back.

I had to check the box on the dialog box stating I didn’t want to see that dialog baox again and I didn’t want to run in diagnositic mode
