Tech Heads,
How in the *~#^%*! can I get rid of “Microsoft Office Startup” in my msconfig Startup Group? It’s a real resource hog (& I don’t believe really necessary.) Thanks.

The trade-off is that when you start the first Office application, it will start osa9.exe in the background, so you get to decide when to wait. For more info, see OFF2000: What Is the OSA9.exe File and What Does It Do? (Q210875).
Hi Mark:
I had about the same results as Mary. The first time you start Word, or any Office program, after a reboot, it will take longer. There are certain parts that are left in memory after that so that they will start faster. I kept osa9.exe, & almost everything else, out of startup.
The only things that start at startup are systray, Explorer, & 3dmain (my $9.95 scrolling mouse software).
If you do want to put it back, do this:
1. Click an empty spot on the taskbar & press F3.
2. Make sure that the look in box is your primary hard drive & that “include subfolders” is ticked.
3. Type osa9.exe in the “named” box & search.
4. When you find it, drag it to the start menu & hold it until it opens. Continue to drag it to Programs & then Startup. That will place a shortcut in the startup folder.
Cheers,
