In WordPerfect when formatting standard letters etc you could give a command to move to a specific line, eg 10cm from top of page, to begin text.

How can I do this in Word.

Specifically what I want to do is to begin the salutation line in a letter at a position that is just below the window in window envelopes. In WP this would have been “Move to 10.4cm from top of page”.
I would like to do this by not using a macro if possible.

I will be on holiday in Fiji for the next week.

    Thanks in advance

Fly me to Fiji and I’ll show you. laugh

There is a field code named ADVANCE that lets you push a line down by an arbitrary measurement. It is relative to the immediately preceding line, not relative to the page. To do something relative to the page, use a Frame or TextBox.

        Thanks J

Another problem is I don’t know the position of the previous line as addresses vary greatly from; 3 lines name, street (post box), town to 8 lines name, position, company, branch, street (post box), suburb, city, country with window allowing for all the conotations that this suggests.

You can create a template which has a frame, as Jefferson suggested. Make the frame long enough to hold 8 lines of address text. You can format the frame so that text will start a certain distance below it. You do this by making the frame large enough & format “distance from text” to an exact amount. You can even put in a {macrobutton nomacro displaytext} field where the body will start & press F11 to jump to that spot. See attached.
          Cheers,

            Thanks Phil & Jefferson

I must have had a mental block with the pending R&R.

Previously I just used the Advance field and specified how far vertically in points.

I think I need the break

            ciao
