Dell 8920XPS updated, W 21H1. Malwarebytes running in background. BIOS has received updates since the problem started, but it continues.

“Start PC over IPV4” is on the black screen I get after he Dell screen when I reboot. I have gotten tired of tolerating it and pressing Esc to boot to Windows.

I found identical fixes such as this: https://prefixx.net/news/boot-issue-fix-pxe-over-ipv4, but I got a warning when disabling Secure Boot that the computer might not boot, so here I am. Both Legacy options were disabled already. I do not see the LAN option; maybe I missed it.

The Boot Option Priorities listed are

    1. IPV4
    2. IPV6
    3. Windows Boot Manager

Shall I go ahead with disabling Secure Boot? I thought this is something that prevents malware from taking over the machine in boot phase…

    Thanks.

Make a note of the changes you make so you can revert if necessary.

F2 at boot (on Dell) I think gets you into the BIOS.
Verify the system sees your HDD/SSD and that it’s first in the boot order.

F12 (I think on Dell) till you get the boot options menu.
I believe the choices 1 and 2 imply booting from the network.
Try choosing 3 Windows Boot Manager or your SSD/HDD if offered.

Change the boot order in the BIOS so that the Windows Boot Manager is first.

Thank you. Simply changing the boot order seemed to have worked.

      Much obliged.
