I would like to create a hybrid chart where stacked bars are next to each other. The x-axis is months.
For each month I would like to chart three stacked bars, where each stack includes 2 parts (stacked on
each other). There are 6 series, 2 for each set of stacked bars. For each month, I can get excel to plot
6 bars or 6 stacked sections in 1 bar, but how do I get it to plot 3 bars of 2 sections each?

Its hard to visualize what you are asking for, but if you would vary the rows where the data is, Excel will chart zero for that segment and then it looks like you have made it as if they are next to each other.
Experiment by first visualizing the chart, then when you want the data to be on the side, move it one row under and one column over.

AskWoody LoungerNovember 20, 2001 at 6:11 am #1790175Bernie, it’s really tough getting those bars next to one another: you have to do some creative data entry. Attached is a sample chart using Wassim’s suggestions that is hopefully like what you want. The chart looks OK, but the data entry worksheet is rough. Maybe you could move some of the data around, but it would make the series formula really nasty, and you couldn’t drag-and-drop a new month onto the chart. Hope this helps. –Sam

AskWoody LoungerNovember 24, 2001 at 12:54 pm #1793334Hi folks,
Too late for a solution, but not too late for the example SammyB’s asking for: see the post #47726 dated 21-Jun-01 12:56 and thread Re: clustered stacked chart (sorry, I don’t know how to put a link or shortcut into this message).
See my attached file at the end, with an example of exactly what you were trying to create, Bernie. It is also a bit convoluted to create, you have to plot a calculated sum of stack 1 and stack 2 and set it on the primary axis as stack2, and set the series for stack1 on the secondary axis. Let me know if you would like the file again.
Aloha,
JohnJ
