    REG-CLEAN S8G9Z220030214104359
I’m fighting a problem in Internet Explorer – I’ve reinstalled everything in the computer, scandisked, defragged,
checked scanreg, and still have an intermittent problem with graphics (I’ve also renewed and upgraded/updated Viper V770D Ultra
    accelerator card driver).
Can anyone tell me what this number stands for? It still comes up everytime I click on “RegClean” – the little program
that Microsoft provides. The message that comes up after I run it, is “UNDO” and this long number. I usually delete it,
but now notice that it is always the same, time after time, so I apparently haven’t solved the problem.
Internet Explorer will crunch graphics (bmps, gifs) into the left upper corner, regardless of the size of the image, then,
locks up when I try to delete it. Going to Ctrl-Alt-Delete shuts down the computer for a restart.
Sorry to write a book about this, but I’m really stumped at this point. Hope somebody can help

Which operating system are you using regclean with (and version of regclean?) If your OS is XP use Regcleaner
You perhaps have a program that is consitently rewriting bad data to the registry. Do a search for undo*.reg How many files do you have? If I am reading the string correctly (S8G9Z220030214104359) it appears that the undoS8G9Z220030214104359.reg is from February 14, 2003. When you find UNDOS8G9Z220030214104359.reg (do not double-click the file) – instead right-click and select edit then copy and paste file here.

Thanks for the reply. I’m using Win98SE, and RegClean version 4.1. Here’s the copy and paste:
        REGEDIT4

; Double click on this file from Explorer to automatically
; undo these deletions or modifications and return the values to the registry.

        ; – Modified or removed by RegClean 4.1-a (7364.0001) from computer: S8G9Z2

I hope you can make some sense out of this mess – and thanks again for the help.
P.S. This one is still on my desktop, waiting for your instructions.

        • #655634

I do not think that regclean had anything to do with your crucnched graphics problem – why do you think that regclean may be the culprit? I am wondering if perhaps you should boot up in safe mode (press F8 key after memory run and before windows splash screen.) Go to device manager – click on view hidden devices – and remove all video card references – then reboot and reinstall the video driver.
          Other Questions:
          1. What is your monitor refresh rate set at?
          2. Do you use any color profiles?

          • #656347

I didn’t mean to “accuse” the RegClean number of anything – I just wanted to know if it gave anyone a clue to what was
happening. I’ve done what you suggested, and everything came back the same way, so I’m guessing that the driver and
other stuff was OK. I’m not smart about the monitor. I saw something that says 85Hz – it’s in the manual settings display
on the Gateway Monitor – Is that it? As far as a color profile, I didn’t do anything to change the default, so I’m guessing
it’s still the default profile, if there is such a thing. The only thing I’ve changed in the Monitor is to turn down the brightness
            a bit.
I do some graphic stuff in Photoshop, and a CAD program – could they be doing something?
PhotoShop is version 5.5, and the other program is called “myHouse”, version 7.0 – – I’ve had them for years, and this
problem is recent, and intermittent…….Hope this gives you a clue? Again, thanks for the reply.

            • #656356

I posted something on another tech site about the Adobe profile – I’ll have to do a search for it – I’ll get back with the info by tomorrow night.
It would also be helpful to know what operating system you have?

            • #657057

              I have Win98SE, and IE 6.
I just remembered something else – it may not matter –
I was having problems with McAfee popping up – and I had uninstalled it and replaced it long ago.
Another tech here told me to put a minus sign in front of the registry entry for McAfee, which I did.
McAfee simply added another “McAfee” folder.
Could that have done anything weird? Just thought I would cover all bases.

            • #657112

No, that has nothing to do with it. What do you mean by, “then, locks up when I try to delete it.” You cannot delete an image on a web page — unless you have access to the .html file and the server!

It sounds like you are describing nominal IE6 behavior. If you don’t like it, go to ‘Tools | Internet Options | Advanced tab’, and remove the check from the box in front of “Enable Automatic Image Resizing”.

            • #657345

By “deleting”, I meant that I hit the X at top right of the window. I’m doing html coding and producing webpages using
              Internet Explorer.
I’ve done the Internet Options that you mentioned, but it is still happening. I’m beginning to believe that I just have too many bitmap and gif images in the machine. It’s still puzzling since I always get a “80%” free reading on the capacity.’
I’ve offloaded a “ton” of images, but apparently that’s not enough to calm this monster down.
When it locks up, I have to Ctrl/Alt/Delete and clear it that way – then, the next time, the same “blocked” image will
display normally. I had heard that 6.0 was full of bugs………now, I believe it. Since it’s not terminal (yet), I’ll just
muddle through. Thanks for all the help.

            • #657468

“By “deleting”, I meant that I hit the X at top right of the window” what X are you selecting?
Give us a screen shot of this X.

DaveA I am so far behind, I think I am First
Genealogy....confusing the dead and annoying the living

            • #657673

Here’s the screen shot you asked for. This is Internet Explorer, NOT ON THE
WEB. Hope this answers your question. For the record, the “X:” is in the
upper right hand corner – that’s what I’m “deleting” the graphics with.
Maybe I should have said “closing” instead of deleting???

            • #657716

So, when you close the IE window that contains the image, then the computer ‘freezes’.

Are you looking at an HTML file with an embedded image (IMG tag), or are you looking at an image file (.gif, .jpg)? I assume you mean the latter.

            • #657844

Yes, ‘Closing’ rather than ‘Deleting’. It appears you may have forgotton the attachment… blush

            • #657854

No, I didn’t forget it – I got a message that something “was temporarily not working” having to do with posting a screen shot.
              OK, I’ll try this again:
I creat 3D graphics in a CAD program that produces images that I convert to .gif s, then go to NOTEPAD to code them
with .html, then, preview them in Internet Explorer. I have been doing this for four years, and only after installing IE-6 did I
start having this problem. Let’s say I’m displaying a 500 pixel by 200 pixel image. Intermittently, Internet Explorer will
squash this grapic into the left top corner to about 30 pixles by about 10 pixels. At this point, Internet Explorer will “freeze”,
“lock up”, “stall”, “stop working”…….whatever name you put on it, the computer is locked up, and that’s when I have to
go to Ctrl/Alt/Delete to try to unlock it. This starts with trying to use the “X:” in the upper right hand corner – when that doesn’t
work (most often), it’s on to Ctrl/Alt/Delete. I then get the usual screens “this program is not responding, blah, blah, blah.
I click “End Task”, closing down whatever is in there, down to Explorer and Systray. Sometimes, this works and I go on.
Other times, the computer will go black and restart regardless of what I have done. I have done all the things listed in the
other posts. I’m thinking of going back to 5.5……….I was warned about IE 6 being a piece of crap, but was told in the forums
that others had installed it without any problems. That brings us up to date. BTW, the screen shot was just a picture of
Internet Explorer with a graphic being displayed, so I wont bother trying to post that again. It’s exactly like the one on your
computer, the minus sign, the doublel-box, or single box, and the X. That’s where we are at this point. Thanks for your
patience………..I wish I had some left myself. aflame

            • #657863

              Hi, Ray ~

I certainly can empathize with your frustration – everything seems to be moving along fine, you apply an alleged improvement in the name of increased functionality, then it all goes to pot! laugh

Let me try to get this straight – you are saying that this image problem is not occurring with images on the web, per se, but rather with images you are in fact creating and then coding for browser viewing, is this correct?

            • #657865

That’s essentially correct, but remember…….I have created these images for four years without any problems….until
now, with IE 6. I have other problems, like people in Europe not being able to access my website, but I think that’s
another problem, for a different forum. Thanks for your interest, and stop me before I uninstall again! dizzy

            • #657879

Okay ~ great…please zip up an HTML file and resource folder and e-mail it to me – I’d like to look at it

            • #657898

Better than that – I just caught it doing the “bad thing”, so here’s a couple of pages that will illustrate
the problem. If you’d like to see the html stuff, check out the web page at:
              http://raybee_91335.tripod.com/indexx.html
It’s full of html that I did on my computer before uploading them – four years worth without a problem until now.
Hope the browser is working this time.

            • #657899

I discovered that the full size image is 1422K, which is too large for this browser, but I’m hoping that the squeezed image
will be small enough to get through. sorry for the confusion – – it just isn’t my day, eh?

            • #657900

              Me again –
Just got the screen that says’: “The Lounge is broken”……………so I guess I can’t send you anything.
Why don’t I just dump IE 6 – it seems to be the only real problem in this unecessary drama!
Thanks for the attempt to help, but things just don’t seem to be working out.
If you have an email that can take large images, let me know and I’ll try to send it to you.
The full image is 1422K, and the squeezed one should be a lot less, being reduced to almost nothing showing.
I have them on file as wordpad.docs, if that tells you anything.

            • #658000

              Hi, Ray ~

Other than a couple of dead links to non-existing tripod pages, they all load and view perfect in IE 6. Ray, have you applied the latest Windows SP-1 and IE 6 updates or not?

I just downloaded the SP-1, so maybe that will help? BTW, I tried again to send the screen shot of the squeezed graphic and got the message that the “Lounge is Broken” again. Does the Lounge use IE 6 also? I didn’t watch the whole download, but the main thing I noticed was that I got a new version 7 of Windows Media Player………….just hope this thing works from now on, and thanks again for all the help from all of you. If this doesn’t do it, I’ll just go back to 5.5, if possible – – that one worked for the last four years without this mess.

Have you checked the size of the image you’re trying to attach? That could be the cause of the “Lounge is Broken” messages. There’s a 100kb max on attachments. If the image is too large use mspaint, or whatever graphics editor, to crop it down to the essentials. And remember to save it as a jpg (or png or gif) – anything but bmp.

UPDATE ON IE 6 Squeezing the graphics
Before I forget it – I’m running Windows 98SE, and it does “repair” the Explorer, but nothing is really fixed. No changes. I also need to mention that it is random and intermittent – – one time, OK, next time same graphics type, locks up and squeezes the
picture, whether it’s gif or whatever. Usually, it’s gifs done in Photoshop from original bmps. Never happened in four years
with IE 5.5, but of course, there are more and more graphics and images in the machine. Now, I’m regularly off-loading CDs and Iomega files filled with the stuff I can live without temporarily. I Tried to save the “print screen” image of the squeezed graphic to something other than “.doc” which wordpad puts it into, but the “system cannot process this file” kind of message came up, in Paint, Photoshop or other Graphic type programs couldn’t do anything with it either, so there goes the example.
In the meantime, I’ve downloaded another IE 6 SPI, but was notified that all the updates already existed in my computer . I should also note that I’m doing HTML in Notepad and reviewing the graphics in Internet Explorer before sending them to the
web. I am NOT ON the internet when this mess happens. Now, what I need to know is how I can get ahold of an IE 5.5, and download that, to see if it will work like it did before this miserable edition messed up my procedures. I really appreciate all the responses and help. I’m sorry I didn’t think to spell out my system in advance. If there’s a place to download 5.5, I haven’t found it yet. Last by not least…….I did an sfc, and was told that my setupx.dll was corrupted. I had the Win98SE CD in the drive, but it said it couldn’t find the file??????? I’m going from here to the DLL Library to see if I can download it there.
Any new ideas will be warmly received and appreciated.

              Ray,
You should NOT be using the enter key as you get to the right side of the message box, just let the “word-wrap” take care of the line feeds except, for when you want to start a new paragraph. Some of your post are very hard to read because of all the extra partial lines.
              Thanks,
