Same story as last time: ok with everything integrated; filter-by-form out to lunch with a split mdb. Charlotte suspected ‘something else was going on’ the last time I posed this problem. What IS that something else?

    Two tables: Children, Absences.
Absences has a built-in lookup query for the child ID, and a builtin lookup for the absence type.

Query that presents all fields, which allows updating.

If i try to do a filter-by-form on the query, the only fields that fill the drop-downs are the AbsenceID, and each of the lookups. All the other fields offer the Is Null, Is Not Null choices.

Total number of records: 29. *I* can see them all – why can’t Access?

Even though it presents you with Is Null and Is Not Null, you should be able to type in a value in those fields and have it use that criteria, at least if 2002 works the same way 2000 does in this respect.

The other little wrinkle that changed between Access 97 and 2000 is that you should see controls bound to *indexed* fields in the backend database as populated comboboxes in filter-by-form. You should only get the Is Null, etc., if the field is not indexed. Try it and let us know if it solves your problem.

I indexed the date, and now that populates the comboboxes.

I indexed the childrens Grade (PK,K,1…8) and that made no difference. I dont care much about this one because it is easier to type a grade than it is to pick.

        Thanks for the ideas!
