About half the time when I bootup, Windows stops on the splash screen. I have to shutdown the computer and reboot. It then boots okay most of the time. This has just started in the last week. Does anyone have any ideas.

Windows XP SP2.

Have you tried Hiding the Windows Boot Splash Screen on boot up to see if this is the problems ?

You could also go into your BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) and Enable POST (Power On self Test) Messages to see all of the messages on the screen during boot up. Then determine where if hangs.

One final thought, during boot up, do you get any beep codes before the computer hangs at the splash screen ?
