Spell Check for Protected Template with form (Word 20000 9.0 3821 SR 1)

I have created a fill in form for an employee evaluation with text form fields. This is going to be a company wide template so it is saved as a Global Template and the form fields have been protected. I would like to know if anyone can tell me how to set this document up so that when the user is finished you can run a spell check?

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated,

Geoff, Interestingly enough, we to have just been asked why form field couldn’t be edited, too. I tried downloading your VBA macro and running it. Here’s my problems with it. In order to even open the macro, I need to unprotect the document, then when I run it, it corrects all spelling errors except those in form fields. It looks like I have the macro setup just like yours, I did copy and paste and then went back and checked it. What am I doing wrong? Just FYI, I am not a heavy user of VBA, but I have written some simple macros. Will anxiously await your answer.

One way is to assign a macro to a button. The macro then can be run without having to unprotect.

But if people want to format as well, there may be another way. It depends on your documents.

Typically, if formatting is required, people are entering large amounts of text- so form fields are not quite as suitable anyway.

A way you can do it is to break the document into sections. Where you want data entry to begin, click on the menu choices- Insert, Break, and select Continuous. When you want it to end do the same.

If you’ve done that for one break, when you protect the document for forms using Tools, Protect, Forms, click on the “Sections” button. Then deselect section 2, and click OK twice.

In the unprotected section you will be able to spell check, format, number- and other things you can’t do with form fields.

Two problems:

1. You cannot press the “tab” key to got from one section to the next. You can get around that with macros- but in a way which may be a little limiting. A macro works fine if you have only section breaks- but gets complex when you mix section breaks and form fields.

2. Users may not know they can enter text at the cursor point. Form fields can be coloured grey on viewing, but they print white. I get around this by formatting the background for the unprotected session in a very pale yellow- that works OK on our B&W printers, but may require a different solution for colour printers.

3. Users may not see where the cursor is. I use a macro to select the section when the tab key is pressed from a previous section.
