I am after a reasonable anti-spam program. I have used Spam Sleuth but it seems to filter more good mails than the spam. It does not necessarily have to be free, if it is good it has a value.

I use the junk filter in Outlook 2003 and it gets 9 out 10 pieces of spam.

Thanks Dave & Joe, I am using Outlook 2000. I guess that replies to both answers. I am nearing 70 and the cash ran out before me.

I am happy to pay for a program that works, Spam Sleuth caused me nothing but grief, it took the links out of mail and delivered them, I then had to retrieve the original. It would not recognise mailing lists from some places, the WOPR ones got through, the Lockergnome stripped of their links every time.

Many ISPs now remove spam as soon as it gets to their mail servers. Usually free! Might be worth investigating this angle?

          Ted,

Take a look at SourceForge.net: Project Info – SpamBayes anti-spam. It works with Outlook 2k, is free, is simple to get going and train. I use this at home and have installed it on one machine at work. The user seems pleased with it so far.

Will download and try. Will report back. I have also found one called MailWasher a friend recommended it to me.

        Regards and thanks.

          Hi Ted,

I second Joe’s recommendation. SpamBayes has been real good for me. I must say, though, that I suspect this program increases Outlook 2000’s proneness to remain running in the background when you try to shut it down.
Anyway it’s easier to CTRL+ALT+DEL-kill Outlook after shutdown than manually going thru individual messages.
I’ve only had one or two false positives in about a year, which seems reasonably good. Have a quick glance at your spam folder before deleting the messages.

I’ve been using the free version of SpamWeasel for years and it has done a stellar job. It’s not often mentioned due to the fact that the company doesn’t have an aggressive marketing campaign. And if it’s not “trendy”, it doesn’t make the popularity charts, even though it is as good if not better than most others. wink
