• SPAM – never until now…

I’ve had my own registered domain with related email address for 20 years and never had a SPAM issue. My Yahoo address had some light SPAM.

I reserved my domain email address for private use and Yahoo for public.

The exception was my LastPass account, which used my domain address. Well, since the LastPass “server anomaly” I’ve started getting SPAM in my domain account – quite a bit.

I’m not going to change this email address – it’s much too embedded in many private contacts and organizations address books. But I NEED to eliminate the SPAM!

My ISP is Qwest and email client is Outlook, which filters the SPAM to its junk folder. I’ll see if Qwest has a whitelist, but don’t think so.

I feel stupid here asking for help on such a basic issue, but I’ve never had to deal with it before.

    Any suggestions?

Hello… I don’t have any answers to how to “eliminate spam” mail …Just want to relate my experience .. It seems to be somewhat sporadic as i get the “spam ” in my “E” mail everyday, some days a flood… also … the “spammers” are good at what they do … setting up different address’s etc. so you can block one and the next day they are back with another…or different spelling. The last barrage for me, was when “Best Buy” got “hacked” into and taking “E Mail” info..resulted in more “Spam”. I think that there is no way of getting rid of it completely… as once you have an “address” …it’s only a matter of time until someone either “sells” your info…or steals it. If you find out how… Please let me know! Regards Fred

PS:. Just received this …Good example of what i was talking about… The Address is always the “Goofy” name@hotmail Changes all the time.. Many others are from UPS, FedEx, DHL with some shipping number attached… Bogus of-course.

If Outlook is doing a good job of filtering SPAM, why not set the autoarchive paramters for the SPAM folder to permanently delete the email after a time period that is comfortable for you. Then you have enough time to review the email before Outlook deletes it.

It never ceases to amaze me how much Outlook can do that I still don’t know about!
I’ve set that up as you suggest and will just watch the folder for now

I have seen several SPAM filter utilities, including CloudMark, which I may look into.

I still feel foolish about this, since I’ve gone so long without having to deal with. It’s been one of the rewards for the domain registration fee.

Do all of you get SPAM regularly, except tfspry ?

Yes, lots of it. But the Outlook spam filter catches the vast majority. So, I use the technique I described to you.

Not sure how you are using your domain. In my case I have a registered domain with email forwarding to another email service.

Say the domain name is catdog.com. All mail to anyone @catdog.com goes to my email service. The standard email addresses I use are bob@catdog.com and sue@catdog.com. At my email provider I have an Inbox for Bob and an Inbox for Sue. SPAM is usually addressed to anything other than bob/sue @catdog.com. Spam is sent to something like abc123jkl@catdog.com.

I set up filters as follows:
      1. mail to bob@catdog.com goes to box named Bob
      2. mail to sue@catdog.com goes to box named Sue
      3. mail to catdog.com gets discarded.

For filter #3 you can have it to go to a SPAM box if you prefer.

Hi Ron, I know this won’t help, I can’t either.
