I just downloaded Service Pack 2 for Office XP. Before I install it has anybody heard any horror stories about this service pack which I ought to be aware of?

Patch reliability is unclear, but widespread attacks make patching prudent. Go ahead and patch, but watch out for potential problems. |

AskWoody LoungerAugust 26, 2002 at 9:05 am #611405Just loaded SP2 onto a Windows 2000 (SP2) machine and it worked flawlessly. Then loaded it onto two Win XP Pro machines and it stops Outlook 2002 loading – it stops at the splash screen. Have to invoke ctrl-alt-del and close the programme. Can run Outlook in Safe Mode without an issue. Tried the second machine and got the same behaviour. Have the Outlook com add-in (attopt2) which allows attachments to get through. Was wondering if anyone else has had this problem? And, of course, if anyone knows of the fix!

AskWoody LoungerAugust 26, 2002 at 11:16 am #611419Found the answer! It was posted on the MS News server. Just go to the user data for Outlook (where you store your .pst file and other things, and rename outcmd.dat to outcmd.old and Outlook will start just fine. This file stores toolbar customisations, so unless you have a lot of customising done, Outlook builds the file when you next start (successfully). It is then a relatively simple task to put back the odd few customisations for the toolbars. At least I’m up and working again!!
Cheers, David
