I was informed that there was an updated driver for my SoundMAX audio card. I am looking for the driver version: 5.12.07.5246 Dated: 1/27/05 or later. I did a search on Google with no success, and tried to update the driver in Sounds & Audio Devices in control panel. The message came back that the wizard could not find a better match than the one I’m using.

The device is working properly, so perhaps I should leave my current driver and leave well enough alone.

All advice and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I have the general view of “Don’t mend what’s not broken”

I would check your source for the driver number as it is not obvious on Google with the reference number you have provided us. The only time I update drivers is when it is specifically asked for in an installation process my 2cents

I can’t check my source because it was listed by one of those dumb programs that you run, it listed what drivers needed updating, but you had to purchase it to find out which driver it referred to, and the site where it could be installed.

Rather than be blackmailed into installing it, I decided to search on my own. Four drivers where listed, I found 3 of the 4, Sound Max is the only one I can’t locate. I will leave well enough alone and not update it unless it requires me to do so.

Quit running any of these “Dumb Programs” if you do not know what they are telling you evilgrin

I agree with Jezza here, especially WRT drivers – If it ain’t broke…

I’m curious what advised you about this driver. I can’t find any reference to it either. Probably the most reliable source for Soundmax driver info would be SoundMAX Digital Audio System : Getting Technical Support and Answers to Driver Questions. Use the SIW program (which you have I think) to get the required info on PC/ Motherboard manufacturer, then follow up on the manufacturer site.

My experience of Soundmax is that the drivers are with the motherboard – but then I had an onboard sound card. Still you could try the website of your motherboard if you’re determined to look for an update.

Soundmax came installed on my Dell computer, perhaps I could go to Dell and ask about the updated driver. I’m not going to bother searching for the driver.

        Thank you for your suggestion.
