I bought a new Mecer a few weeks back and all is just great (Mecer agent loaded Win7 Pro) – except for the sound, when listening to a video online. Many of my webinars are streamed online and after a few minutes, the sound starts to deteriorate into, what can only be called, a scramble of squeaks, then silence. A CD seems to be fine – but when a video is being steamed online into my earphones – all sounds goes haywire after a few minutes. I tried toggling the earphone plug in the green slot on the front of the cpu and the sound is restored for a few seconds, as it seems to “connect” but then “disconnects” only to go weird again – then finally, all is silent, no matter what I do to the plug. Last time I toggled the plug, the( YouTube) video stopped and an error message came on stating that an error had occurred and that the settings were not supported by Chrome – which I was using. (New earphones did not help.) The Mecer agent is at a loss – as am I…….and my precious lectures are going un-listened to, which is a mess. Anyone have the same problem?

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

Mecer is a PC brand, right? A link to your specific model might help, so we can check the specs and components.
I have never experienced your problem, or heard of it before, so no wonder you both are at a loss. The symptoms suggest it’s probably a hardware problem, so the solution lies in narrowing it down until you identify the cause.
If you’re comfortable opening the PC’s case, check the cables going to the front panel–usually they’re small thin guys, and the little connectors on them could easily become partially dislodged. Best is if you have a manual which shows where all the cables are supposed to go, usually from the motherboard to the front panel.
You’ve already tried another set of earphones, so that’s not it.
Is there any other sound output on the PC, eg thru speakers or monitor? Does it work?
Any difference using another browser? Is there another green audio-out port on the back of the PC you can try?
The ‘wiggling’ symptoms you describe point to a bad front audio-out port.Confirm that you [or someone else] can hear the webinars without problems on another machine. That eliminates the video stream source as a problem.
What happens when you stream some other video+sound source, eg Netflix or similar?
Can you stream just sound, eg MP3?If last 2 answers are ‘goes bad’ and ‘yes’, that suggests some problem in the video+audio processing hardware. Probably chips on your motherboard–or do you have separate sound and/or graphics cards?
Lugh.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 18, 2016 at 7:35 am #1581830Lugh – thanks so much for spending time on my hassle. I ended up taking it to a local technician, only to find the the front audio (green) plug in the cpu was broken. I came home and attached my earphones to the back inlet and so far, all is dandy. Some quality – a new machine is shipped with a broken plug!! But that said, all is well again and my CPD hours are being caught up again!!
Thanks, Lugh!!

It happens, PCs are a pretty complex collection of fragile sensitive parts, with many millions of signals flying around every second between them all. I worked for a computer manufacturer for 6 years, so I think it’s great they work as well as they do!
