I have been moved (on campus) to Windows 7. I hate its asking me for confirmation every time I copy a file, and at the way it often refuses to let me edit in document folders navigated to through one route but lets me via a different route. (that was the prejudice bit)
But right now the big annoyance is audio, which I need to create lecture material. I used to use Audacity to record snips of the sound of playing internet radio (etc) but now cannot, even with Audacity’s “beta” version for Win 7. “Stereo Mix” is usually unavailable; when it is available it doesn’t work. Many times I even cannot switch to “microphone” or “rear input” in the Sound control panel because it is marked “currently unavailable” even when there is clearly something plugged in. And when a devise IS available, what on earth is the difference between “default device” and “default communication device” under Set Default?
Can anyone help with less than a 5000 word essay?
    Steve

Though you didn’t say so, I’m assuming by ‘on campus’ you mean it is a school operated computer? If it is, contact the campus tech support crew and I’m sure they can help you configure things correctly.

      Good luck!

      Steve,
Hello… I’ll give it a shot… go to Control Panel> Sound> Then plug in the device that you want ..You should see it “Displayed ” ( Mic, Headphones, Etc.) Right click on the device and set as default … When it’s removed ( headphones, etc.) it should revert back to the “Speakers” as the default.. Regards Fred
