We are in the process of making the transition from GroupWise to Outlook. In GroupWise, when I would delete an item, the Trash folder was sorted by the deleted date. In other words, what I deleted most recently would be at the top. In Outlook, I’m noticing that the Deleted Items folder is sorted by date received, not date deleted and I’m not finding that column/option to even sort by. Is this possible? Help!

AskWoody LoungerJuly 5, 2007 at 1:17 pm #1070761See this newsgroup thread, in particular the quote from Microsoft in the last reply. On Exchange, the Modified date gets changed if you delete a message, but on stand-alone Outlook it remains unchanged.

AskWoody LoungerJuly 5, 2007 at 1:30 pm #1070765Curious. I tested it on my Exchange Mailbox Deleted Items Folder by adding the Modified Date field and dragging a message into the Exchange Deleted Items Folder, and the Modified Date didn’t change. Perhaps it’s the way an item is deleted that changes the Modified Date; dragging may not work, where using the menu or shortcut keys to delete changes the Mod Date. (I have a Rule to move everything from the Exchange Folder to to my PST, so I’d have to change that to test further.)
It appears, for the sake of the original poster, that this technique will also work only in the Exchange mailbox, not in PSTs.

AskWoody LoungerJuly 5, 2007 at 1:09 pm #1070757Interesting question; it appears that nothing is available in native Outlook. The built-in message date fields in Outlook are Recieved, Sent, Modified, Expires, Due By, and Defer Until. Moving a message to the Deleted Items folder does not change any of these dates. Youy might be able to do something with VBA acting to create a custom Deleted Date field, or change the modified date and display it.
