Click on the size bar to sort files by size. But how can I sort folders by size?

AskWoody LoungerApril 23, 2001 at 5:48 pm #523778Assuming you are referring to Windows Explorer, you will notice that the details pane (on the right) has column headings like Name, Size, Type, Modified, Attributes. Any of those columns can be sorted by clicking on the heading. Repeated clicks toggles Ascending, Descending etc. Too sort by size click the size Heading until the larges files are at the top (or vice versa).

AskWoody LoungerApril 23, 2001 at 11:45 pm #523843Sorry if this is off topic, but in the past I’ve had the Attributes column visible on the Windows Explorer. I’ve recently gone searching for the option to turn that on and can’t find it. I’m sure it’s something small that I’m overlooking.
Can anyone point me in the right direction (Win98 SE)?Many thanks…

AskWoody_MVPApril 23, 2001 at 11:57 pm #523847Within Explorer, right click a blank area od the gray bar above the listing (Name, Size and etc). You will have a list of items to check off.
Note: I am running Windows 2000 and can NOT remember where for sure this option is in earlier OS’s.

AskWoody LoungerApril 24, 2001 at 12:16 am #523851Hi Dave (and Leif),
Thanks for your suggestion(s). I wish it were that simple…I’ve right-clicked EVERYWHERE with no luck (tried that long before posting). I’ve searched the Folder Options, View Options – I’ve even scoured TweakUI with no luck.Again, I’m dealing with Win98 SE.
It’s not a big thing, but I know I’ve had it enabled in the past. Bummer!
(I’ve been dying to use that one!)

AskWoody LoungerApril 24, 2001 at 3:06 am #523867There’s a documented registry hack in the KB:
Attributes Column Is Not Displayed in Details View of Windows Explorer
I haven’t tried it out myself.

Not at all.
I was using a Win98 system last week, had the attributes. Then came home and didn’t have ’em here.
Odd, because the system I was using was a domestic system shangaied into temporary duties as an office machine. I don’t think of such systems as having “registry hacks” in effect.
I used SEARCH and located your original post. Relax. These last few days I’ve been feeling about as crazy as did you over a year ago.

AskWoody LoungerMay 10, 2002 at 1:40 pm #587333Thanks for your response, but this is not the case with Win98 SE. As you’ll see from the posts in the thread, there are no such options available in Win98 SE. I was finally able to turn this on with Jscher2000’s suggested Registry hack.
Now that I’ve moved to WinXP on one of my machines, it is nice to have that option.
