AskWoody PlusMarch 30, 2024 at 12:09 am #2654937Note: I do not have an outlook account, and am merely a ‘local’ admin & user.
Under those “Search, Games, Outlook”:
Most disturbing is: windows managment, where Ask is default. Is under Cookies and site permissions. Block is available.
( Tried to insert another Edge Games .png, alas AW is showing it as an ‘attachment’ when I clearly inserted into content, and am getting a wordpress error as not able to edit- I’ve only been on here for 25 minutes?) Oh well:)

Why is that disturbing?
Which specific Edge settings do you consider to be new or sneaky?

AskWoody PlusMarch 30, 2024 at 8:53 pm #2655242All screenshots above are ‘new’ to me stgs since ver .123!
The link to “windows management” came from the new Games feature, which as per my Games pic attachment shows “Allow Edge to share Casual game URL’s with service provider MSN” with default is on. That’s oddly intrusive to me. MSN? I don’t play games; glad for the toggle! The ‘ask’ as a default I found interesting, as I’ve rarely seen an ‘Ask’ stg actually work for me. Thus I simply block everything and manually turn on as needed:)
“Sneaky” as in no ‘Welcome to New Edge features” which used to pop up after an update to alert me to anything new, and that these many new features default to being ON. (Nothing new there, just more time combing thru stgs).
Sure is a lot more of an integration with Edge & Windows O/S. Doesn’t feel to me as if it’s simply a browser any longer. I quite liked it as default browser awhile ago!
Personally, every new Edge release is like a ‘stgs change’ Easter egg hunt for things to turn off!

AskWoody LoungerMarch 30, 2024 at 9:00 pm #2655243I haven’t had anything “new” turned on in quite a while, and I’m on the current 123 release for Stable.
I have about 99% of stuff turned off, and it seems Edge updates have honored those.
I don’t get updates from inside Edge, I download them from here…
Download Edge for Business (microsoft.com)
I’m only interested in the security updates…

AskWoody PlusMarch 30, 2024 at 9:24 pm #2655244That’s interesting! I’m not certain this applies to regular Win 10 home/Pro consumer users? I usually keep ‘metered connections’ on and await Alex5723’s alerts; that’s all I can do:) Thx for links! Will check into them.
Update: just looked at your links-says for ‘Business’, (assuming one is on Win 10 Pro) do you just download & install via your User account?

AskWoody PlusMarch 31, 2024 at 9:23 pm #2655571Hi @b :
I updated Edge from ver. 122.0.3365.92.
None of the above settings/features were present on the .92 version. Hence my OP. I check each updated version carefully, disable what I can, have for yrs:) PS I deleted Copilot from Apps & features on Mar 29 after updating, and suddenly today it’s back, installed itself today. I’ll add to or open another topic

Hi Deo:
There’s a discussion about this new Microsoft Copilot app at Settings | Programs | Programs and Features that was included with MS Edge v123.0.2420.53 (rel. 22-Mar-2024) in WCHS’s 17-Mar-2024 Apparently, I’ve been dribbled Copilot. Now what?. See my 30-Mar-2024 post # 2655056 in that topic for the latest information I’ve been able to find about the purpose of this app.
Note that WCHS got this Microsoft Copilot app a week before most users with the “regular” (Stable Channel) release of MS Edge because WCHS has a BETA edition of MS Edge.
Most disturbing is: windows managment, where Ask is default. Is under Cookies and site permissions. Block is available.
I use Firefox browser as my default and don’t pay close attention to my MS Edge settings so I don’t know when the setting at Cookies and Site Permissions | Site Permissions | All Permissions | Window Management that you showed in your post # 2654937 first appeared in my MS Edge browser. However, the release notes <here> for MS Edge 123.0.2420.53 (rel. 22-Mar-2024) state that a new policy called DefaultWindowManagementSetting is now included in MS Edge v123 and higher. I don’t know if that means that this is a new setting in MS Edge v123 or if Window Management is no longer an experimental feature and Microsoft simply changed the default setting in MS Edge v123.
There is more information about this feature (previously named “Multi-Screen Window Placement“) in the Chrome Platform Status document at https://chromestatus.com/feature/5252960583942144 which states in part that “The Window Management API allows you to get detailed information on the displays connected to your device and more easily place windows on specific screens, paving the way towards more effective multi-screen applications.” That document notes that this feature might be useful in a situation where a “Financial app opens a dashboard of windows across multiple monitors” or if you use “Multi-screen layouts in gaming, signage, artistic, and other types of apps“, for example.
_____________________I don’t think it’s relevant, but I noticed that all the site permission settings in my MS Edge v123.0.2420.65 browser look slightly different than yours – mine are controlled by an ON / OFF switch instead of a dropdown box where you can choose Block / Permit / Ask. For example, see the attached images for my my Window Management setting at edge://settings/content/windowManagement.
