I’m running both versions of Access on a Win2000 machine. Our custom 97 application creates snapshots of reports using snpvw90.exe, which works on the other machines in the office. On my machine, which is fairly new (although I inherited it from my predecessor), trying to send a report to snapshot format triggers an error to the effect that there’s either a problem with the code or the output procedure is not available. It is not a code problem, so don’t get sidetracked by that. I simply can’t use the snapshot format from Access 97, no matter how I do it.

I reinstalled snpvw90.exe, but that did not cure the problem. I also went into the registry and added the missing snapshot format key and values to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftOffice8.0AccessJet3.5ISAM Formats and restarted my machine, but that had no effect either.

I can create a snapshot in Access 2000 but not in Access 97 on this machine, which means the viewer is installed properly, at least for Access 9.0. It’s only Access 97 that can’t seem to use it. Since I can’t test part of our application without this capability, I’ll accept any suggestions you can offer.

It appears that I had two flakey versions of Access 97 on my machine, one of them vanilla and one of them (possibly) SR-1. After I reinstalled Access 97, the SR-1 version works and the vanilla still doesn’t. I had to rename the other version because Win2k wouldn’t let me delete the entire folder. In any case, the problem was apparently with the Access 97 installation rather than with snapshot viewer itself.
