I am running a printserver and it has started to slow down.
Printing PDF, Office Docs, Internet stuff.
What are some things I can troubleshoot.

    HP Proliant 3.40GHz 2GB RAM
    Windows 20-03 Server SP-1
    64GB Print Spool partition.
    12 Printers (1 HP9000, 2 HP4300, 8 HP4350, 1 HP5500 Color)
    T1 in a small office: 63 Users

The problem seems to be with the 4350 printers.
I have tried using 4350 PCL5e instead of the newer PCL6 thinking it was buggy.
It worked fine for about 2 months. Now people are reporting of it slowing down or loosing documents.
I stopped and started the service. Also, I rebooted the server.
Are there any tools I can use to monitor the problems?

    Thanks

    Chris

This isn’t a very technical answer but sometimes when a printer is really giving me grief, I turn it off and disconnect all power source and network cables for at least a minute! It seems to clear “the air” so to speak and the misbehaving printer (do this for print servers as well) responds quite nicely. As for monitoring its activity, isn’t there a place in the administrative tools to keep check on printer activity? I am not as familiar with that part. Hopefully, someone with Admin server abilities will step in and help you out! yep

With some of my print servers, I have to delete the port on the server and create a new one. It generally happens about every 3 or 4 months and not neccassarily on all printers. Just select ones. I’ve also had success with the “reboot” method described above. This is typical for either my ethernet or wireless print servers.

Oh, and by the way… be very leary of Window’s Hardware Updates for the Server that may contain Printer Driver Updates!!! I get suckered everytime. Update the driver and pay the price!

        Good Day!
