• Slow copy (2007)

Just completed my first week using 2007 and am puzzled by the very slow copy process. I routinely use shapes with text to identify areas of interest on a picture (png). To copy, I ctrl-click and drag to new location. That process was instantaneous on earlier version of Excel. Now at approx 7 sec per copy time 100 per picture, that’s an extra 12 minutes per picture. It seemed like a re-calc lag so I switched formula recalculation to manual (had no effect).

My question is, what’s causing the delay?

Any chance of an example file.
I have tried dragging complex pictures as a copy in 2003, 2007 and 2010 on my machine
and in all cases the copy is instant.

The problem isn’t with the png (which is of a blueprint). I’m numbering all of the dimensions listed on the blueprint using INSERTSHAPEHEXAGON and adding text (in this case a number) within the shape. It’s the copying of the shape that’s taking a long time.

Could still do with an example.

      Here’s a small sample.

Not sure what is happening with yours then.
Mine was an instant drag and drop copy on Excel 2007

That’s fine for me. Do you have SP2 installed and have you tried setting a different default printer?

      Yes, SP2 is installed.

I hadn’t tried setting a different default printer before, but just did with no change.

      Were they different printer models?

      What OS are you running?
