It takes more than 10 minutes to open a file. The file size is about 11MB. No VBA in this workbook. Is there any suggestion on this strange behavior?

Is the workbook on the local hard disk, or on a file server? If it is on a file server, does it also open slow if it is copied to a local hard disk? Does it contain a lot of links to other workbooks that must be updated when the file is opened? Does truning virus protection off on the workstation have any affect?
Here is a shot in the dark for something to try. Open the file and do a File/SaveAs and save the file to Type HTML under a different name. Close Excel. Start Excel back up and open the HTML file and then do a File/SaveAs back to .xls type (don’t replace the original file). Does the resulting file now open more reasonably? If so, check to see if anything like formatting was lost in this process before you delete the original .xls file?
