    Hi all
My Father In Law has recently had a new PC with a CD writer and a camera.
He takes this camera everywhere with him, (believe me, EVERYWHERE) any way.

He’s not very computer literate and stumbles thru the best way he can with various tasks.
He’s asking me how to take images off his computer and put them on a CD so he can view as a slideshow on his DVD player.

I wondered if any of the members knew of an easy to use utility, program which ever, obviously a free download, so I can put him on the correct path.
He hasn’t much money so the emphasis is on free download.
    He’s running Win98.

    Thanks all

      Hi, Dave ~

I was turned on by a good buddy with a cool Halloween CD made with ‘LPJ Slideshow’. It is free, easy, for 95, 98, NT, 2K, Me, XP and the recipient of the CD won’t have to install anything.

You can get LPJ-Slideshow v1.6.2 from PC World or LPJ-Slideshow v1.7.4 direct from Lars Jeppesen’s site.

        Thanks Bruce.
I downloaded the program and it’s simple to use.

Have you used this on a stand alone CD in a DVD player and how did it re-act ?
I’m wondering if it will autoplay.

          Hi, Dave ~

I have not tried such a CD in a stand-alone DVD player and am not sure what, if anything, would dictate its behaviour outside the parameters of a PC.

It indeed will autoplay if you use an ‘autorun.inf’ file and you may refer to the help file for this. smile

            Thanks Bruce.

I found another program, which seems exactly what my Father In Law needs, DVD Pixplay.http://www.xequte.com/pixplay/download.html”%5B/url%5D

Very simple to use, nice and easy interface. although it has to be registered, the Reg key seems extremely reasonable.

            Thanks for you time.

            Dave

              Hi, Dave ~

Just so you are fully aware, DVD PixPlay is not freeware and holds a purchase price of $19.70.Your emphasis was on free thus why I suggested the LPJ Slideshow. smile

              Hi Bruce

Yes I did emphasise “Free” but looking around, I only stumbled upon the Pixplay software.
The $19….. dollars is probably about

              Hi, Dave ~

There was no misleading and no need to apologize – I just wasn’t sure if you knew it wasn’t free. DVD Pixplay presents itself as a good app and the price is fair.

Oh, and you should know that her money is her money and your money is her money grin

Well, I tested your “find” Bruce and I really like its simplicity. I now need to dabble a bit with the INI file to see how I’d like it to run and I think I’m going to burn a CD with two years of grandson pix for family in New York and Florida. The guy’s done a nice job with the program…..

              Hi, Al ~

Actually I have to give Doc Watson the credit on that – he made a pretty cool Halloween CD and that is how I got turned on to it.

Are you using the latest LPJ version? If you have a console DVD player, with respect to Dave’s inquiry, would be curious to know if it plays.

Thanks all for the superb links and software finds.

The wife thingy doesn’t just contain it’s self with the money side of things, she usually say’s:

“Whats yours is mine, whats mine’s my own notmyfault

            • #688072

That’s a good question (or two), Bruce. Yes, I got the latest version from his site. I went back to look at the other one to see if the INI file was structured any differently. One thing I wish he had done was to arrange the INI file so that the “explanations” text was clustered together with the actual settings. It would make for a lot less jumping up and down while you’re learing and customizing. So, I did some cutting and pasting and fixed a copy for me. I’ve made a slideshow of ALL the pictures I’ve accumulated of our grandson for these 27 months (about 350 pix). Now I’m playing with tweaking the INI the way I want it. It’ll be a few days before I get it on a CD for “shipping.” Not sure what you mean by a “console” DVD player, but I have a standalone DVD player, about the size of a typical VCR player. My son gave it to me some months ago and I’ve never hooked it up but I plan to now. Will post back if it works, but I wouldn’t expect it to really.

Guess I’m lucky then the rule in our house is “her money is her money and my money is our money” with half going to my wife and half to my daughter and I get to keep ALL of the rest! wink

            Hi Bruce

Are you referring to an “autorun.inf ” file, or is the autorun.ini file a separate issue again, for a standalone player?

That’s a nice find, Bruce! THNX!

      Hi Dave

Happy to hear you’ve found what you want……but for you other free find afficionados, AlbumDIY might be fun.
Yep, it has ‘slideshow’ and ‘save as exe’ features.

      Have a Great day!!!

Looks like a cool app, Ken. It’s kinda heavy though (7,15M). My dial-up connection is doing its best to get me a copy smile

I forget the procedure, but I think that IrfanView will do it too????? And it too is free. If only the search thingy was on line I am sure that it was talked about in the past.
