Slides not advancing (2002)

I have a similar request to MickeyTor’s in that I have added music to the first 4 slides of my presentation. I set the Custom animation of the music file to play with previous, and stop after 4 slides. I want these first 4 slides to advance automatically using slides transitions. I have also set the transitions to advance automatically after 10 seconds. I also went to Slide Show | Set up show and checked the option to use timings if present. I can get the music to play but the slide will not advance beyond the first slide.

Does anyone have any suggestions here?

Sorry for the late response and hopefully you have already resolved your problem.

I only have office 2003 but I don’t think there were any significant changes for this type of operation. I have over the past week or so tried to replicate your problem without success, each time I try it works, here is what I did by way of an experiment

1. 5 blank slides (numbered 1 -5 so that as they advanced I could tell it was working)
2. On slide one I inserted a music clip
3. With the soundclip selected I opened ‘SlideShow’ and then ‘Custom Animation’
4. On the ‘Custom Animation’ menu to the right of the page I selected ‘Start after previous’
6. I set the advance time to 10 seconds on slides 1 through 4

Each time I have tried this it works as expected, 2 things occur to me, firstly is there any other objects with commands that may conflict with your timing (I have used blank slides so nothing can interfere) or secondly could you inadvertently set the timing to 10 minutes rather than 10 seconds, something that I have done in the past. If you would like to post a non-confidential example of what you are doing I will happily take a look.

Again – I’m using ppt 2003 – and I get the same as Steve gets, it works for me.

I used
Insert > sounds > from file
My sound file is a short .wav file

I set the “custom animation” to with previous

I set each slide to advance automatically after 00:01 (1 second) on slides 1 to 4
