    Hi all

I had this same problem with Outlook a couple of years back, but have forgotten how I cleared it!
I cleared out some OL folders in an attempt to cut down on pst filesize. Now, when I open OL, it shows the splash screen, seems to want to load, comes up with the ‘databinding’ message then as soon as OL Today page appears, it shuts itself down.

It does this every time. I thought i may have corrupted the pst file somehow, so I tried opening another pst but it still does the same.

I think you guys came up with the solution last time… can you remind me, please?

    Cheers, Phil.

The list of folders displayed in Outlook Today is stored in the Registry. If this list isn’t valid any more, the problem you mention can occur.
You may be able to repair the list:
      – Select Start | Run…
      – Type regedit and press Enter.
      – Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice11.0OutlookTodayFolders
      – Delete all entries that have become invalid (because you removed the folders).

The screenshot below shows the Folders key on my PC.

I have looked in the registry and have the same entries as you.
I didn’t remove any folders when I had a clean out, merely deleted the messages in them

I’m afraid I have no idea. You might try a repair installation of Office 2003, but I don’t know if this will solve the problem.

Is your Office installation up to date with patches? Have you checked the event log? Can you post the exact text of the message you are seeing? Have you customized the Outlook today page?

            Joe – in answer:

Is your Office installation up to date with patches? Yes!
Have you checked the event log? No, how do I do that?
Can you post the exact text of the message you are seeing? There is no message – OL just closes itself.
Have you customized the Outlook today page? No – all I did before the problem started is clear old messages out of their folders, then permanently delete them from the ‘deleted’ folder.

            Phil.

To check the event log right click My Computer, select Manage. Then click the ‘+’ next to Event Viewer.
