• Should I reset Windows?

When I installed one of the Cumulative updates to 2004 (awhile back) it was taking forever to install it
(much more than usual) and I pushed the restart button and then it finished. The problem after that was
that the computer takes forever to boot up and has ever since that episode. I am now on 20H2 and the problem persist’s.
I tried updating my Realtek audio driver last night and since then I have no sound. Something has really changed with my system.
My question is, would a reset (saving my files) of Win 10 Pro fix all these problems and if so, when it say’s that it will get rid of Apps and Programs, does that mean that I would have to reinstall Office, Photoshop, Foxit, etc.?
    Thanks for any help

What that choice is going to do is essentially a clean install of Windows, then put your User files back in your User Folder (C:\Users\CADesertRat).
It will remove any third-party programs you have installed and change all your Windows settings to MS defaults.

      I would suggest:
+ Make a full drive image of your computer and a separate file backup or your data (so you have something to go back to if there is a problem).
+ Do a repair upgrade over the top to 21H1 (not using Windows Update, in other words). Choose to keep your Apps and data.

That should do a reinstall of the Windows OS without you having to reinstall all the programs and reset all your settings.

        Thanks for the response PK,

This leads me to more questions.

1- I basically clone my system which would give me an exact copy of existing (warts and all).

2- Where do I copy the data files I need to save? I assume that I could save the file to D drive?

3- I’ve never heard of a “Repair Upgrade”, how do I do that and where do I look for it?

        Thanks

Susan had a Main Blog Post here. Also search for “inplace repair (or upgrade) over the top.”
There has been a lot of discussion about it in numerous topics.

According to a thread I began earlier this month, Susan feels the feature updates should have already accomplished the same thing as an in-place repair.

Well, I did a repair install with the MCT following the tenforums link in Susan’s blog and I am now on 21H1 with this computer. The repair install didn’t change anything other than put me on the latest build. I still have no sound and the computer takes longer than normal to boot.

Not sure what to do next.
