From time to time, at least once a day, I will get 2 low tones (boom, boom) and my computer locks up and I can not move the mouse pointer. After about 5 to 10 seconds I hear one more tone, and the computer frees up and reacts normally. I do not see anything in Event Viewer that would indicate what is causing this. It happens with multiple programs running, or with only Outlook 2000 running. It is not related to mail delivery that I can tell. I have not noticed this problem when I have no applications running, but I almost never have this situation.

Start | Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Event Viewer. Which messages do you have under System at the crash? Under Application Log?
If you are not sure, clear all events and try to catch it once again.

None – that’s the mystery. I wouldn’t call it a real crash as the system just freezes for maybe 5 seconds and then unlocks and behaves normally. I have started to keep a log on paper, recording the time, date, apps running, etc.
