Shockwave Flash Object file preventing print function

Win XP – Print stopped working when client tried to print from a YouTube Video(!) Tried clearing print spooler using this method:

Control Panel>Admin Tools>Services
Scroll down to Print Spooler, right click, and stop
C:WINDOWSSystem32spoolPRINTERS
Delete all files in this folder
Return to Print Spooler Service and start

Two files keep reappearing: Shockwave Flash Object & SHD File
I’ve tried everything to get rid of these 2 files in the spoolPRINTERS folder. Deleted (more than once); emptied recycle bin; restarted computer; checked folder — files are gone — and then as soon as I try to print they reappear.

HELP!

Try this;Open Control Panel,Flash Player.Then click on the tab;Advanced,Delete ALL.Hope this helps.

Try stopping the print spooler service before you delete the files from spoolprinters then restart it. I had a similar problem a few weeks a go and that worked for me.

I was having this issue at work with two computers that couldn’t print at all. finally I had time to check the issue, and it seems that the windows spool service generates a “.spl” file, which consequently is a file extention that shockwave flash has elected to use as well. Well, that creates an issue with any of us who might use Flash on our windows machines.

I have found that the best fix is to remove the file associations between “.spl? and “shockwave flash” and that can’t be done using the “Default Applications” UI,
because you have to substitute one association for another, both of which will defeat our purpose. So, the solution is to open a command prompt and type “assoc.spl” and windows will come back as assoc.psl=ShockWaveFlash. Next type “assoc.spl=” noquotes… and then type “assoc.spl” and it should come back that there is no application associated with .spl file extensions.

You may have to edit the registry value that also attributes the ext with the app. I’m not sure if when “Flash” is updated it will reapply the association ( I sure Hope Not!!!)
