    I am using Windows 8.1 on a Toshiba Satellite C55-A. I primarily use Chrome as my web browser.

    I keep getting Shockwave Flash crashes. The computer locks up and then starts in bits and fits. I listen to the radio in Chrome and I can hear it cutting in and out. It doesn’t do it all the time, it seems to happen for a while and then it gets over it and everything runs fine, for quite a while. It does happen at least once or twice a day, every day. I haven’t been able to pick up on a pattern.

    I checked chrome://plugins/ and only have the Adobe Shockwave Flash Player running, no Chrome plugins. I also checked on the Adobe site and I have the latest version of Shockwave. I don’t know what else to check. Any suggestions? Thank you.

      You could give the Anvi Browser Repair Tool a try as it can prove successful – I’m unable to see what it can repair as I don’t have Chrome installed, but clicking on the Chrome icon in the left pane will display those for you. http://www.anvisoft.com/browser-repair-tool.html

      Thank you Sudo but that looks like it is primarily for IE.

        In the Anvi first window, on the left you will find icons for various browsers. Click the one representing Chrome. You will then get various options to select, then click “repair”. I had problems with Firefox, it repaired them immediately! Or try various times, clicking different options each time.

      Try using Update checker from File Hippo;
      It’s free, harmless, and more informative than some better known resources.

      Hi donebb,
      Do you have the latest Chrome update..it’s Version 37.0.2062.103 m

      If so, go to the chrome://plugins & see if your installation has BOTH the Shockwave Flash Players..Pepperflash V14.0.0.177 and the Adobe Macromed Flash V14.0.0.179. You will see them on the ‘Location’ line in the list for each.

      If you have both, disable the Macromed Flash player. There’s an enable/disable option for each plugin. Watch it doesn’t disable both the Flash versions, if so just ‘Enable’ the Pepperflash option again, so the Adobe Macromed version is disabled.

      The Adobe version is a dud. Adobe hasn’t been able to get it to function correctly for over 6 months.
      If you don’t have the Pepperflash version, it’s a bit of a fiddle to get it, but Chrome does provide it as part of the installation, because so many have had problems with the Adobe flash player.
      Let’s know & I’ll try to remember the procedure to get it. I’ve had Pepperflash running for so long !
