I have my system running Windows XP with no problems (Really like XP!!) which I
installed onto a clean HD. The mistake I made is that I did not save off some
files to another HD and need to recover them from a tape backup that was made
from a version of Cheyenne Backup that will not run under XP (Even in
compatibilty mode) The tape engine will start but not run.
The tape drive is a Sony SDT9000 (DAT) on a SCSI bus. the backup program with XP
works to the drive but will not read the Cheyenne tapes (So much for
“compatibilty” between tapes). I also have a 100 base network up and running
between my XP and Laptop which is running Window 98SE.
My question, do any of you know how I can “share” the tape drive from the XP
system to the laptop??? I have File & Printer sharing enabled on both the laptop
(Win 98se) and the desktop (Win XP). The problem is that the tap drive is
connected to the desktop (Win XP) and NOT the laptop. What I need to do is
somehow get the laptop (Win 98se) to “see” the tape drive that is connected to
the desktop (Win XP). Win XP did not assign a drive letter to the tape drive, it
only shows up in Device Manager.
Any help at all would be appreciated…
