So we have a bit of an unusual out of band (meaning an extra update not released on the Second Tuesday) update released on June 11 for Windows 10. Not

Note that this is one of those types of updates that will be offered up in the WU window but not pushed to you UNLESS you specifically clicked on “Check for Updates”. If you do that, it WILL install.

      KB5004476

It’s still listed as Optional, even after clicking Check for updates:

        Per Vandermeer

He got it when he clicked “check for” proving once again that just when we think we understand windows, we don’t understand windows.

It may be unpredictable when people keep deleting the update that repairs “disabled or corrupted Windows operating system components that determine the applicability of updates to your version of Windows 10.” 😃

Not standard behavior according to my experience with multiple W10 platforms. Agree with b’s findings.  Installation remains optional even after clicking “check for updates”.

There may be another reason this update was offerred.   This past week, EA Sports —- the folks who makes sports video games, was hacked.  And it was a massive hack. All their source code was stolen, among other things.

Perhaps this is a preventive measure for those who integrate Xbox?  Or …. maybe some bad actor tried to take a swipe at MS and their Xbox platform?

Ultimately KB5004476 will be included in your Windows 10 machine in the next cumulative fix.

Why do I need Xbox patch if I don’t have a Xbox nor Xbox Game Pass and never will ?

Xbox is big business to Microsoft and their priorities are higher than yours (unfortunately)

[snark] The new ‘Windows 11’ will run best on XBoxes. Windows 12 will run only on Xboxes. These fixes are preparing the way. You are being encouraged (as in a ring in the nose of a bull (oh, wait, there already are people ahead of you in this)) to start thinking, even in your dreams: XBOX, XBOX, XBOX.

Remember, you heard this rumor here first! [/snark]
