Share sub-folders (Outlook XP / Exchange Server)

I would like to share a sub-folder under my main exhange inbox folder. The sub-folder is called “Applications” and I would like another person in the office to have read / view rights to this folder. I have shared the sub-folder and received no warning messages, etc. following the menu prompts. But when the other person tries to access this folder, it is not listed as one that can be shared.

So in an effort to solve this problem, I also permitted the other employee view only rights to my inbox. They can now access and view my inbox—but my sub-folder under the inbox is still not visable to them to view. Does someone know if a sub-folder under the inbox can be shared? If so, can you provide some insight on how to accomplishe this feat? THANKS.

Thanks…I did try that….no luck. The only way [it appears to me anyway] is that you must also grant permissions to the Inbox in order to “see” a sub-folder under the inbox. When I grant read only permissions to the inbox and the one sub-folder that I want the other employee to “see”….this employee can “see” both the inbox and the one sub-folder [i.e. there are other sub-folders associated with the Inbox that are not shared and these cannot be “seen” by the other employee]. What I was hoping is that only the one sub-folder would be viewed and the inbox, for privacy reasons, would not viewable by the other employee.

I elected to use an inbox sub-folder, as we have an outlook rule firing to populate the sub-folder and this seems to only work [i.e. this employee has remote access via terminal services] when the sub-folder is under the inbox…when I initially created the rule, it worked with a personal folder..so long as the employee did not log in remotely via terminal services. Once they logged in remotely, they received an error message that the rule could not find the personal folder….This is why I created a sub-folder under the inbox…this solved the rule error message when the employee logged in remotely—but apparently also keeps me for “sharing” only the sub-folder with another employee….

My only other suggestion is that you promote the Folder you wish to share to be peer of the Inbox and see if that works.

If I recall correctly, Recipient Computer Step1 in Webgenii’s post does not work immediately; both computers have to log out of Outlook and log back on. You might want to try that step again, even possibly logging both of them off the network and then logging back on. Using her technique I got a subsidiary Calendar on another person’s PC (a child Calendar of her default Calendar) viewable on my PC.

Thanks…I tried the logoff suggestion today…same result. It appears that any sub-folder of the inbox that is shared–one must also shared the inbox. As you suggested, I created a folder on par with the inbox and can share this folder without needing to share the inbox…thanks for all of your help.
