• Share My Calendar (XP)

I’ve tried the Free/Busy Service that Outlook has, but it *totally* doesn’t work. I’ve tried it twice, and I’ve gotten someone else to try it to, and on these 3 occasions, it hasn’t worked. I am therefore looking for an alternative way to *EASILY* share a calendar with someone outside of the office. I’m SURE that there was a way you could share a folder over the net in an older version of Outlook, but it no longer seems an option in XP.

Is there ANY easy way to share a Folder/Calendar over the net with someone who’s not an an Exchange Server?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sounds like you’re thinking of Net Folders. That was dropped from XP, probably because it was soooo buggy. If you don’t like the free/busy options, then I think the only choice left in Outlook is to use File | Save As Web Page. Of course, you need access to a web server for this. There are also 3rd party utilities and services available that do this kind of thing. I can’t really recommend any.

Was Net Folders where every time I got an E-mail, you got a copy too? (etc).

        Anyway, thanks for your reply.

BTW, it isn’t that I don’t like Free/Busy, it just simply doesn’t work. Anyway, it’s good to know that the only other way is saving as a web page. Thanks again.

That’s the puppy, and it worked (supposedly) with calendar and contacts too.

            Thanks.

I thought I was losing my mind, b/c I knew that something like that existed.

Would have been better to have something that worked a bit than something that doesn’t work at all!!!!

Anyway, thanks again for your reply.

I’ve included a website that discusses sharing Outlook (Net Folders not being available and other options you may have). Hope it helps… http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/ol2002/missing.htm%5B/url%5D

I was also looking for a way to do this, and found the only solution was ‘Save as web page’. However, a big problem with this (as far as I can tell) is that there’s seems to be no way of filtering the information that’s saved. Does anyone know of a way to make it, for example, exclude private appointments, or simply use blocks saying ‘Busy’ for times when private appointments are listed? It seems fine otherwise, but this is a real pain!

I don’t have any way to test this, but I believe that what you see on the screen is what gets published. You can try this by creating a custom view and filtering out the private items.

I’d hoped that would be the case, but it doesn’t seem to work :-(. I have a “No personal” filter, but it still exports the whole lot. Obviously you could copy the non-personal items into a second folder and then do save as web page, but that seems like a bit of a pain…

        Thanks for the link.

I’ve had a bit of a look around, and it seems that there are some companies that offer solutions similar to ‘Save as Web Page’ (although I presume it’s automated!).

Still can’t believe MS hasn’t got an easy way to do this! bash

        Anyway, thanks again. smile

My Outlook 2002 (XP) has “save as web page” listed when in the calendar. Is this what you are looking for?

            Yes and no.

Having a Calendar save as a Web Page is an ideal solution, except that one would want this to be automated, i.e., it should periodically save and publish this information. I shouldn’t have to manually save and upload my calendar every time I make or accept an appointment. I think this is what one of the programs I saw (via the link) does. I have yet to test it.
