I’m sure(?) sfc has run OK within a CMD window in the past. Now, it gives me this message:
You must be an administrator running a console session in order to use the Windows File Checker utility.
I get the same result both in my usual, and spare, admin accounts. The only info on this message that I’ve found refers to being unable to run sfc remotely through a terminal services client. Which I’m not doing on my stand-alone PC (AFAIK).

    Any clues?

That’s all I found, too. No help though, since I am logged on locally (as an administrator). The only thing remote at the moment is any clues as to why this is happening confused
