Setting the default window size and position

I cannot seem to get Chrome to start in the same place and with the same size window every time.

I have tried right-clicking at the top, choosing “Size” and then clicking in the desired window, but neither the size nor the position seems to hold for future windows.

What do I do to achieve this?

Position the Chrome window the way you want.
Press Ctrl + F5
Chrome will flicker
Close Chrome window using the X in the top right corner.
Chrome will now open to that position and size until you change it.

You could do this by using the flags –window-size=x,y –window-position=x,y in the target field of chrome.exe properties.

<your.path>\chrome.exe –window-size=1800,1800 –window-position=200,200

Does not work…

My Chrome somehow remembered the window to be across the screen but not maximized. When I shrink the window, do shortcut, close on “X” – it opens again across the full screen (unmaximized). If I click maximize square in top right, it slightly fills the screen – but pretty much stuck on Chrome opening across the full screen.

I have Chrome Version 126.0.6478.127 on Windows 10 Home. I just checked and the instructions do make Chrome open to that size and place the next time it opens every time I reset it.
Maybe you need to update chrome?

Does your keyboard have a special key to activate the F keys? Does Chrome momentarily flash after you enter Ctrl + F5 at the same time? The flash signifies that Chrome has saved the setting.

This isn’t working for me either. And I DO have a special function key to activate the F keys. I’ve tried the control + F5 combo in different orders, and I can’t get it to work. I DO NOT see the flash you’re describing. It just moves my cursor to the URL bar.

One very important caveat about Chrome’s command line options.

They must be preceded by a “double dash” or they don’t work!

So –window-size=##,## –window-position=##,## needs to be ––window-size=##,## ––window-position=##,## to work.
